Has anybody done any work calculating the height of burial mounds from ring ditch dimensions where a mound no longer exists? #archaeology #burialmounds

Rob Grant RIP. Legend. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard as at the reveal at the end of the "Queeg" Red Dwarf episode.

This has been flooded for quite some time but the trees still stand. Reminds me that the inundation and the die off may have lasted a generation or a lifetime. Slow but continuous and perhaps too swift for some. #thefens

Doing a tidal survey and a part of salmarsh has been purposefully reflooded. My photo is poor but you can see a line of trees dying off in the distance. Reminds me of a very specific archaeological horizon in the fens below the Fen clays where we see marked tree die off.

My Polish partners family are all vets and doctors and pharmacists but there's also a strong line of musicians, entertainers and artists. Her parents house is full of art by family or traded art by friends and neighbours. Anyway, here's one of my favourites they let us have. #winterolympics

Stills from the most recent @timeteam.bsky.social on the princely burials at Cherrington (Glos.) which included a woman, relic-box hanging from her waist, beside a young boy with an adult's sword; eloquently presented by the ever-fabulous @helengeake.bsky.social.

Sizewell princely cemetery reveals more Anglo-Saxon secrets "Fancy grave goods" were found with a princely burial, but other finds are also amazing experts.

πŸ“° "Princely" Anglo-Saxon grave in Suffolk contains two people alongside a horse. Grave goods such as a sword, spear, silver vessel and more indicate it was a high-status burial with possible links to Sutton Hoo.

Sizewell princely cemetery reveals more Anglo-Saxon secrets

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... a bit more detail on our excavations of the Early Medieval barrow cemetery out at Sizewell. Nice bit of detail on our barrow surrounded by posts, think a medieval sea henge, and Chris Ferns reconstruction sketch of what we think it looked like.

I don’t want to worry anyone but Digging for Britain has just said that the largest UK archaeological dig is currently taking place a stone’s throw from where MR James set A Warning to the Curious.

Burial site β€˜akin to Sutton Hoo’ sheds new light on Anglo-Saxons The extremely rare discovery made during excavations at Sizewell C dates to the 6th or 7th century and includes a princely burial of two people and a horse

NEW: An Anglo-Saxon burial site with remarkable similarities to Sutton Hoo has been discovered at the development of the Sizewell C nuclear power station

I'd also have to check but I think Lakenheath is earlier (5th Century) whereas our provisional date is 6th/7th century.

Our horse was in its own grave cut with two individuals in another grave next to it, both under the same mound. Mound 17 at Sutton Hoo was similar with the horse in its own grave cut. Lakenheath had horse and rider both in the same grave cut. You are right though linking it to Lakenheath!!

Did last week's episode of Digging for Britain leave you craving more?

Then you're in luck, as the #OCAArchTeam will be back on your screens this Wednesday at 9pm to explore our excavation work along the Suffolk coast as part of @sizewellc.bsky.social

A reproduction of the bronze boar-headed Deskford carnyx held in the air.

The new Norfolk Iron Age carnyx find featured on #DiggingForBritain with @profaliceroberts.bsky.social is beyond spectacular, dating to that crucial period for the Iceni between Caesar’s expeditions & Boudica’s rebellion. Already my find of the decade, today is a day to worship the carnyx…
