It’s World Book Day!
I’ve celebrated by dressing as one of my favourite Ancient Greek characters (and goddesses) to read and to write, ⚑️Athene, Goddess of Wisdom⚑️

(And I taught three classes and a help session dressed like this!)

I assume you mean about Danica rather than me not watching F1 for a few seasons due to life issues? Although I love the idea of hundreds of people being like "CAROLINE IS SAD HELP HER COME BACK"

Poster art. The style is cartoon-like. Fringed red curtains pull back to reveal blue clouds swirling and retreating from 'The Clouds' in chunky yellow capital text. Below, a wrinkled, aged hand reaches up from the bottom of the poster, its grey shadow falling over the globe it stretches to grasp.

Opens tonight! Have you got your ticket for The Clouds, the one-and-only 2026 KCL Greek Play? Performance starts at 7.30pm, and runs for three nights (and a matinee) only!

While everyone was busy talking about world war three, it occurred to me; should I be focussing on world war me?

Americans really need to make their mind up, what are we the bland spiceless nation with no seasonings, or are we the weird nation with a wall of unknowable spices that are strange of foreign??

Like, I get all of these aren’t super common, but surely everyone should have Zaatar and Sumac??

The Duolingo owl and the Hooters owl are brothers. One chose the path of knowledge.
The other, the path of jumbo bazoingas, short shorts and chicken wings. An unbridgeable schism. A tale as old as time.

I've learned that a lot of guys visualize our social environment like this:

[image of a graph with two points]
good men / crazed evil men

but it's actually closer to this:

[image of a graph that is a spectrum with the following points]
heroic men who will intervene
well-meaning men who underestimate the issue
men who think predation is an unfortunate fact of life
men who think certain women deserve it( but aren't active predators )
men who passively enjoy/consume/encourage predation
textbook predators we're all aware of
monsters so cruel we can't even fathom them

: Half of UK universities face a deficit next year. Up to 50 could close.

That is a sector in crisis. Simply blaming a tuition fee freeze and nudging fees up with inflation is not a plan. Where is the long-term strategy for higher education?

It never ceases to confound me just how many folks think the point of essays is to provide teachers with essays. That teachers just like, collect them, or need them for sustenance or something. Rather than the point of them being the *actual fucking act of learning how to think about shit*

Yes, but if the Council of Nicaea *had* been overseen by an English unitary authority with a directly-elected mayor, I reckon we’d have more consistent dates for Easter. The movable feast thing plays havoc with the bin collection timetables.

I've said it before but, in the absence of proper regulation and the licensing of metal detecting, then we must rely on the good old fashioned fairy curses attached to each and every hoard. Let the folk beyond the veil sort it out. 🏺πŸͺ™πŸ§šπŸΌβ€β™‚οΈβ˜ οΈ

I propose to make universal the old policy of the Blackfriars conference at the American Shakespeare Center:

If you do not end your paper on time, you will be forced to exit, pursued by a bear. Literally, a bear will come take your paper from you.

French rape survivor Gisèle Pelicot: I need to have answers In an extensive interview with Newsnight, the woman at the heart of France's biggest rape trial speaks about betrayal, healing and choosing the right path.

He wanted to β€˜subdue an unbreakable woman’. Rape is almost always about power. The misogyny is breathtaking. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
