First day back at the university. Time to work on the project prototype that is due wednesday

Since it's 2025 now (happy new year btw) I should probably start working on my prototype again. Let's see if I can both finish my university project and make my prototype playable before my trip to poland

Another day of mostly conceptual work. Still managed to do a bit of level design on my small test map. I'm currently fighting triggers that have a non rectangular shape. I'll probably have to rework the area system to work with more than one collider :/

Lastly I've started work on the Game Design Document! Better late than never.
For now I've just added what's already been implemented. There are still some parts of the game I'm not quite sure about, that will need some more time to flesh out, before putting them in stone.

I've also added a feature that highlights every object you can interact with while pressing LeftAlt. Once I start building the level it will be quite hard to determine which objects you can interact with and which are just props.

The cursor changes based on the interaction you are going to do once clicked. I'll probably have to make it a bit more visible, especially on dark backgrounds tho.

Gonna call it early today, because I have to get up early for university tomorrow. But since I have a 7 hour gap between lectures I'll find enough time to make up today's lack of progress.

Today was the first coding workshop of the semester, which was held by a few friends and I as part of the GamesLab. Because of that I didn't have much time to work on the prototype today. Still managed to create a small test dialog and implement doors needing a key to open.

I love it when a fix is way easier than I thought.
Now each interactible object has multiple interactions tied to it and an integer determining which of these interactions should be active.

I really enjoyed the demo! So much in fact that I just can't wait for it to finally get released. I'm also looking forward to the new OST releasing. The Citizen Sleeper OST has helped me through multiple nights of crunch, it's just perfect! I'm sure the new one will be even more perfect!

I think I'll take a small break from all the movement and interactions and fix up some stuff I overlooked when implementing the dialog system. Currently each object you interact is limited to one Dialog only, so I'll have to figure out a way to change that.

Didn't have too much time today, still worked on some stuff. If you enter a trigger certain parts of the map will now be hidden with a dissolve effect. It looks ok but I'm not 100% happy with the approach I took. I also tweaked the doors so they feel a bit better now.

I also added camera lock. Now you can either move the camera with WASD or press space to lock onto the character. Overall today was a productive day!

We have working doors! Today I've also started creating a small test map to test movement across multiple floors. Next I'll have to think about a system that hides the second floor, while the player is still at ground level. I could just hide it or I could try to create a good looking dither effect.

Today was a day of mostly cleanup. Still had some time to implement small things, like a title and subtitle for the dialog system or a max distance for the camera. If the camera is too far away now, it will move towards the player until it's back within the radius.

Today I started working on a simple dialog system. I've tried my best to design it in a way that I can easily add onto it in the future. The Unity UI system gives me headaches sometimes, but it will suffice.

I've decided to start a little experiment. From now on, I'll be posting regular updates on a prototype I'm currently working on. I want to take the project more seriously, so I'm hoping these updates will help keep me motivated and prevent me from slacking off πŸ¦†
