Trump loves to tell this very specific story. He's done it on several occasions. But as far as I can tell, it's not actually based on anything that actually happened. The person in his story doesn't exist.

Indeed. I'm definitely experiencing that "clenched knot in the throat" feeling. But it's a detached sadness--I don't know his friends or family so don't feel like reaching out; he was just a friend I'd made on the internet, but it also felt special, and he was such a good person.

During covid, I'd lost touch with many people. So to search for someone, only to discover he's dead because of random violence...just awful.
