I hate how art online is now just some performative game of impressing people in 15 seconds. Art in fandom spaces is like, the one place where you can be seen, even if just by 5 people. And even then people forget what you drew 5 seconds later once they scroll down.

LRT replacing the gallery site with social media really killed the hobby of drawing and seeing people improve even if it's just fanart, I strugged so hard throughout the 2010s wishing mutuals could see my improvements but I lost touch with every one of them

I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.
