I am the same with Lovecraft (who is far worse than Tolkien)

My apologies if I sounded like I was trying to excuse the writing. I grew up reading Banks’ sci fi so it has more of a place in my life.

Well no writer exists in a vacuum. I certainly think the values of an era will impact on the literature being produced.
I’m just reading Foundation and Empire (after your Arcs video) and that’s full of gender cliches (which the TV show justifiably alters)

No Im not saying it’s fine. But it’s surely reflecting a bygone era (from the late 80s I think)

I don’t think it’s any more of cliched trope than Jabba the Hutt or Baron Harkonen.

The art is superb (I still have my bookmarks from UKGE 2023)
