My elementary school had a teacher who survived the holocaust as a child. She showed us her tattoo.

Nicolas Cage, this is your moment

This administration is πŸ’― going to lose the original copy of the constitution to some zany caper

Or it does what pretty much any infection can occasionally do to the infirm:

Anyway hope it’s shingles and he can’t sleep

Can’t wait for too online journalists to explain how it isn’t reflective of the nytimes’ biases that the president having that rash won’t get the kind of coverage about presidential health that a doctor going to the White House to discuss Parkinson’s policy did for Biden

So is Mamdani’s stage name Mayor Cardamom now?

I had shingles in September and you know that saying "i wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy"? Turns out it's not true in this case!

Love the liberal justices leaning in and saying "why yes Bruen is crazy as shit, enjoy the world you made"

Anyway, he is unambiguously good on Native American law, which is why I must caveat that I think many rather than all of his principles suck.

But! I also think if that is the world we are going to live in that smoking a joint every other day shouldn't prohibit you from participating as an equal member of society in that world? Or that the admin should take legal positions because it has a grudge against the son of the last president? 2/2

Honestly not sure how I feel about this one in particular. Bruen is insane; I think the current interpretation of the 2A, that it protects a personal right to privately buy and own an unlimited amount of guns unless they're automatic (for some reason that's the line?) is bad; 1/2

Gorsuch is one of the only conservative justices who actually has some principles, even if I think many of those principles suck.

Aight, saw someone call Ro Khanna the 2028 front runner and that's it, I don't believe most of the users of this website are real people anymore. Full believer in the empty internet now.

This is what I do with pronouns in emails as well; my real name is gender neutral and I point out its obviously helpful for people who are making their acquaintance with me for the first time. Does help people see it as a purely practical thing.

Do these people know they can just write fan fiction and publish it on the internet, they don't have to get someone else to make it into a TV show for them?

As a one-time Colin Powell respecter, him burning his legacy to sell a fake war was more mind boggling if you recall he was one of the people at the White House during GWWB who was against invading Iraq as part of Desert Storm b/c he accurately predicted it would be a quagmire that Bush would own.

I live in a house behind a coffee shop and a bar and its p. great. And contrary to a lot of NIMBY messaging, it actually contributes to my street being one of the safest in my city.

The likelihood that, I, a middle aged white male lawyer, will get killed by the feds is not very high either, to be clear!

My statement still holds.

I am so, so much more likely to get killed by an agent of the US Federal Government than I am by Iran that I find it difficult to quantify.

BlueSky's servers are shitting the bed, so if your post doesn't have any likes, know in your heart I liked your post but it didn't register.

If the important thing is for people to -know- they have a position, that seems like something you could publish in an article without giving them space to be persuasive about their bad opinion.

02.03.2026 15:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Perhaps you think this doesn't matter because who you publish has no impact on the public debate or public opinion, in which case I would have to ask why you are bothering to publish them at all.

02.03.2026 15:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

To expand on this, if you, as an editor, are deciding whom to publish based on whose opinion you - arbitrarily - think is most important for everyone to hear, you are in fact making a supportive choice there in elevating who is able to most loudly contribute to the public debate.

Clarifying moment for me was trying to convince my working class, right leaning aunt that climate change was an actual problem and she responded "if you're right, I'll be dead anyway" (she has grand kids) and I just kind of gave up on trying to change minds on the substance of issues after that.

If this all sounds like I'm contemptuous of a lot of the American electorate, well, look at who won the last presidential election with a plurality of the popular vote.

Part of the reason it is so easy for our government to bomb countries at random is that the median American absolutely does not give a shit about foreign policy. I think that is bad and would change it if I knew how, but until then, you have to reach people where they are, which is often very dumb.
