all of these people making up wild allegations about Mamdani are ignoring his very real accomplishments, like killing Dick Cheney.

Apparently I’ve said something controversial by arguing that the future model for the Democratic Party are charismatic candidates who advocate for populist positions while never backing down to right wing intimidation campaigns. How is this even up for debate?

The mainstream media is going to regurgitate the administration’s propaganda that money is pouring in via tariffs, it is on all of us to loudly tell the truth and constantly repeat it: This is a tax on working families that is destroying the growing economy he inherited.

Inchoate thoughts from some reading:

Rich white dudes are ferocious about attacking on Black women’s material base β€” public sector employment β€” and cultural capital β€” online etc β€” right now because they think we radicalized white women

people on the left and opposed to trump almost always sound like theyre trying to impress someone. meanwhile the right is directly speaking to people in normal language and it is very effective.

The speed with which companies are abandoning DEI is a clue about how shallow their commitment to it ever was.

I have a bunch of thoughts about how BeyoncΓ© is reckoning with Black American identity, the erasure of Black life in popular Americana imagery, and what it means that one of the most iconic images of Ruby Bridges was created by Norman Rockwell in the face of declining empire and no cultural safety

Poem Yvonne, black and white ink drawing of a young Black girl with glasses, wearing a dress and black and white pedal pushers. She is carrying a grocery bag with collard greens peaking out.

The poem is called Yvonne and reads:

yvonne
stood there unsmiling.
with collard greens
and sensible shoes
on her way

to becoming a good
Black woman

Intro page of Spin a Soft Black Song:

Introduction
That's Charles and me-when we were little. We don't look as happy now. You could say we've lost our innocence. That's a little worse than losing the nickel to put in Sunday School, though not quite as bad as losing the dime for ice cream afterward. Even though we know it was supposed to be the other way around.
Charles and I decided to write a book with poems and pictures for and about children 'cause when we were growing up there were precious few of them. Especially for us. And we wanted to say things the way we said things when we were little; which in adult language is the profundity of the noble savage. You'll get to that when you're no longer a part of it. So we tried
We talked with children and mostly we tried to remember what we were like and what we did. Like I used to be home alone in the evening after school and watch the scarey movie then be too scared to go to the back of the house and cut the lights on. So I'd Sit in the living room till Mommy and Daddy came home. My big sister was supposed to keep me company but she was always on the phone or practicing cheer-leading, so it was really me against them. So far I'm breaking even. I read my books, watched Loretta Young reruns and sometimes listened to the news. But I quit listening to the radio when my father got run over by a car . . .

And maybe one day you'll write a book about us yourself. And Charles and I can read it to our grandchildren.
