For perspective, that's roughly equivalent to 25k people suddenly landing in Hastings [Thread] >> 1

A similar view to the previous post in this thread but now the great red spot appears near the right limb. Also we see it at a different angle.

Each of the bright spots shows a three-spiked rainbow-like interference pattern caused by a special mask placed in front of the telescope. When the spike pattern is symmetrical the middle line centered the telescope is in focus.

Last night's total lunar eclipse at mid-eclipse. You can tell it is close to the edge of the umbra at lower right. Also called a blood moon if you have orange blood. Takahashi TSA 120, modified Sony Alpha 7 III, 1s exposure moon, 10s stars, ISO 400. #astrophotography

Astronomer Nevil Maskelyne racked up a £141 alcohol bill during his 18 month expedition to observe the 1761 Transit of Venus.
That’s over £26,000 ($35,000) in today’s money.
Or almost £50 per day.
He claimed it on expenses and would go on the become Astronomer Royal.

Trying to google prices of rum in 1761 and this would buy about 5 liters / day? Prices might be higher on an island though.
