Pete Rose Day was planned a long time ago. It had nothing to do with the recent announcement about allowing him into the Hall of Fame.

Thanks for the clarification. My point stands tho. Celebrating a guy who made a conscious decision to violate MLB's rules is shameful. As long as you're great on the field, you don't have to follow the rules.

It's a luxury Black folks can't afford.

The idea of people refusing to vote bc they don’t want to compromise themselves morally is utterly foreign to Black folks, bc only an extreme amount of privilege makes it possible for people to treat voting as a statement of virtue rather than a tool to improve the material conditions of others.

To be Black in America is to be forced to compromise yourself on a daily basis in order to survive. People who sneer at Democrats genuinely do not get the sheer fear that motivates voting for survival.

In this capacity, they double down on the “Democrats do nothing” narrative, bc it excuses the behavior of their MAGA family members, whom they claim are somehow principled enough to reject the shortcomings of the Democratic Party but not those same shortcomings in Republicans.

LGBTQ+ friends, but few have Black friends. Or if they do, they're Black folks like me for whom code switching is a way of life. It's only been the last half decade I stopped worrying about offending white people.

Ime they’re people who grew up with conservative parents but who have LGBT+ friends, so became leftists so that their views align with both parents and friends. They can be socially liberal while also being able to bash democrats while telling themselves their bigoted parents are secret leftists.

A lot of them tell themselves that their parents would vote for Democrats if they were economically progressive enough, and that they only voted for Trump to “burn it all down” and “reject the status quo.” Even though Trump’s fiscal policies are textbook post-Reagan neoliberalism.
