James Bond on a tram in Bratislava in the Living Daylights

So, watched The Living Daylights with the kids yesterday. Time flies.

The plot revoles around helping a defector flee Czechoslovakia - a country that doesn't exist anymore - while at a classical music concert.

Kids: "Why couldn't he just leave?"

Hmmm, so...

Well game manipulation I call it. They β€œfix” a match can they, but they can massage & manipulate a teams progression through the game.

The ref wasn’t happy with where Barry was stood & blew for a free kick so the keeper put the ball down. Was just one of a whole host of nonsense going on with that ref.

He still managed to get back & put himself in a good defensive position. I agree he was flapping but the goal is down to Tarkowski being way too forward & couldn’t get back.
Would be nice to play LB @ LB & RB @ RB & a lot of the issues would have disappeared cos Branthwaite would have been there

Keane tracked his man back & was in a good defensive position. Tarkowski was way way way out of position & blowing out of his arse & couldn’t get back. More on Tarkowski than Keane.
Also on the manager playing Dycheball in the final third - we are fkn clueless

The political effects of X's feed algorithm

Feed algorithms are widely suspected to influence political attitudes. However, previous evidence from switching off the algorithm on Meta platforms found no political effects'. Here we present results from a 2023 field experiment on Elon Musk's platform X shedding light on this puzzle. We assigned active US-based users randomly to either an algorithmic or a chronological feed for 7 weeks, measuring political attitudes and online behaviour. Switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed increased engagement and shifted political opinion towards more conservative positions, particularly regarding policy priorities, perceptions of criminal investigations into Donald Trump and views on the war in Ukraine. In contrast, switching from the algorithmic to the chronological feed had no comparable effects.
Neither switching the algorithm on nor switching it off significantly affected affective polarization or self-reported partisanship. To investigate the mechanism, we analysed users' feed content and behaviour. We found that the algorithm promotes conservative content and demotes posts by traditional media. Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects. These results suggest that initial exposure to X's algorithm has persistent effects on users' current political attitudes and account-following behaviour, even in the absence of a detectable effect on partisanship.

A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right.

Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.

This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.

Ah Matt turn off comments.
Why?
Maybe to stop people pointing out that:
a) All Reform MPs voted against the Workers’ Rights Bill
b) He took a hefty salary from a Hungarian far-right organisation
c) He doesn’t even live in the areaβ€”and likely won’t be seen after the election
d) All of the above?πŸ€”

Poverty is not real.
You should not be allowed to work from home.
Minimum wage is a bad idea.
Women need to stay at home and have kids.
Migrant workers are the problem.

I don’t know guys. It seems like Reform might not represent the working class at all?

Palantir is suing the Swiss magazine Republik who pointed out Palantir's links to ICE and the Genocide in Gaza, which caused the Swiss Government to call them a catastrophic threat and ban Palantir from Swiss Government.

Stop Palantir taking over our public services! Our public services aren’t for a secretive profit-hungry US tech firm. Sign the petition to tell the Government to scrap all contracts with secretive US tech firm Palantir.

Palantir, a US spy-tech firm, has been given access to millions of NHS patient records.

Its founder has said the NHS should be 'ripped up'.

Join me in calling on the government to end the dangerous Palantir contract.
