The experience of seeing a glacier is something else! Here are some studies I did on location over the summer. I’d been trying to paint from this vista all week but it was constantly covered in cloud... until the last day! 😅 Hooray!

Color photo. A thin white waterfall flows down from the top of the photo, over dark brown rocks dotted with small plants. At mid frame it goes behind the rock, only to appear again in the bottom third. It is surrounded by trees in various autumnal hues: yellow, gold, and orange, with s scattering of tall evergreens interspersed.

As I did last year, I accompanied some friends out to the Olympic Peninsula to catch the tail end of autumn...

Oil painting of a waterfall called Gluggafoss in south Iceland. The green and ochre hillside contrasts with dark rocky alcove where you see the falls. The flowing water has created several tunnels and holes in the soft bedrock - creating windows which you can glimpse the water through as it cascades down!

📢 NEW painting! I LOVE this waterfall - I love how the cascading water looms in this dark alcove cut into the craggy hillside. This contrast was made even more stark when I visited the waterfall in overcast misty weather – classic Iceland!
