Aw, I like that name...Jasper. I call the cat in the painting Stardust. She's a feral that lives in my neighborhood. She's actually very sweet, though i can't pet her.

Yes, I think it could be an Anna's, it's hard to be sure without a better look. I wish we had both where I live. We get mostly ruby-throated, which I love, but more variety would be nice.

I challenged myself to take at least one photo every day this year. Now I already take A LOT of photos, but honestly it's been sort of a chore many days.

Most days I just do the same boring stuff and, right now, I spend hours babysitting kittens every day...as you will see.

Mama cat was spayed last week and she's doing well. She's back outside and coming by multiple times a day to ask me go for walks with her. We've already been on several short walks today. As I finish it typing this, I have one of her kittens snuggled up next to me, paws on my left wrist.

I think because things aren't great right now, people are just too stressed to adopt right now. So here we are, late January and we still have the kittens. They are perfect little kittens. For proof, I posted some photos here the other day. The boys are fixed and the girl will be soon. (Continued)

The goal was to keep them in our yard (there's a fence) and get them adopted by 12 weeks. Unfortunately at nine weeks, three kittens got very sick. Two trips the ER vet, $1200, and a few days later, they were on the mend. The one kitten that didn't get sick was adopted at 10 weeks. (Continued)

While I was happy she had brought us her kittens to help take care of them, I was worried about the fourth. I went back to their previous home and found the missing kitten, the girl. It took me all day, but I finally got her back with the other three in our front yard. (Continued)

Again, she had three boys and a girl. I knew I would have to figure out how to get them where we could keep them safe, but they were skittish and could easily hide. One September I looked out my front window and saw the kittens in my front yard...only three kittens, one was missing. (Continued)

It was the middle of a hot summer. We knew she had given birth, but didn't know where or if they survived. After a couple of weeks, it looked like she had been nursing. They had survived, but they were hidden away. I finally saw them for the first time when they were a month old. (Continued)

The next step was to get her spayed. We failed. She was feral and smart. She got pregnant again, and I started working with her to make her comfortable with people. I got to the point where I could safely pet her. Unfortunately, we didn't catch her before she gave birth again. (Continued)

This past March she gave birth to her first litter on our back porch. Four kittens, three boys and a girl. We commited to making sure her kittens wouldn't end up feral like her. After 9 weeks of working to ensure the kittens were all healthy, they were adopted to loving homes. (Continued)

Inspiration vs. Art

The moment was captured on an August afternoon in Huntington Beach, CA. There were so many of these little white butterflies fluttering around.

The tiny triptych is painted on canvas in acrylic (and still available).
