Response to the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill 2025 – Community Land Scotland We have published a statement in light of the passing of the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill on Wednesday 5th November 2025. We welcome the Bill’s passing and believe this is a step forward for land reform legislation in Scotland.

Last night, the Scottish Parliament passed the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill - a milestone in Scotland's journey towards fairer, more transparent landownership.

A strong step forward, but the next Parliament must go further with bold, structural reform.

The rain really hasn’t stopped in Langholm β˜”οΈπŸ’§

A perfect time to see how our new wetland and peatland sites are standing up to the ongoing deluge.

Lots of new pools in blocked ditches, sphagnum moss colonising and wetland ponds full!

Why the battle still rages over land ownership in Scotland The reaction to the Scottish government's wide-ranging new laws show the divided opinions on the issue.

We are pleased that the Land Reform Bill passed last night. This is only one step forward. The provisions should improve transparency, community engagement and hopefully break up some monopoly landholdings. However much more work will be needed in the next Parliament...

Tax reform on landholdings is desperately needed. We need to bring poorly managed and owned land in urban and rural Scotland back into productive use for public benefit. This must be dealt with in the next parliament. Clear, strong arguments from @ross-greer.bsky.social during LR Bill debate tonight

Important amendments from @ariane-burgess.bsky.social and Mercedes Villalba being voted on in Parliament tonight. They would ensure public oversight over significant land transfers and set a presumed limit on landownership at 500ha unless owned for wider public benefit. Much needed interventions

πŸ›οΈ The Land Reform Bill is being debated in Parliament right now.
Scotland’s land is hoarded - 50% of it owned by less than 1% of people. One of the worst statistics in Europe.
My amendment sets a 500-hectare ceiling, giving ministers power to stop land sales to those who already own vast estates.
