#FoodSecuirty Food Bank of the Rockies does a cool thing where they partner with a local group I e churches, library or a rec center, which allows them to have a wider geographic reach in areas that may not be food secure.

9/9 done, for real this time.

#FoodSecurity a few more things:

- Some food pantries were only for specific groups of people such as Veterans or people who were HIV Positive.

#FoodSecurity So in summary, a lot of our food pantries will take on the brunt of the loss of SNAP benefits but access to them is difficult and in some cases in my opinion dehumanizing.

I don't have any hopeful things to add to this. I think I am going to go cry now. This is abhorrent.

#FoodSecurity Some pantries were by appointment. Which means you have to call or schedule your appointment ahead of time. One pantry I found had a 10 day wait period between the 2 times you would be allowed to shop for groceries at their pantry.

#FoodSecurity there are also Mobile food pantries! Which travel all over the Denver- Aurora Colorado area,

They aren't always in the same location.

They also have specific hours that they are open for.

Very few of the pantries in this list had Saturday or Sunday hours.

There are FREE to anyone Food pantries! This is a GREAT thing.

However, almost all of the 33 Food pantry data that I added to that spreadsheet only had hours available on weekdays during the day.

This also seems concerning.

If it isn't. if that pantry was the closest to anyone on SNAP who now, due to the government shutdown no longer has access to SNAP it would suggest that they would have to reapply and see if they were eligible to access the resources of that food pantry.

#FoodSecurity First, what was the most glaring component as I was putting this data together was that a lot of these no profits or churches (also non profits) needed income eligibility.

I don't know if the income eligibility for the food pantry is the same as what would be required for SNAP.

Side note: I only did my zip code (80014, which only brought up 33 Food Pantries near me)

a series of maps that focus on different aspects of what is within 1 Mile of the Colorado Bureau of Investigations Building in Lakewood CO. The upper left shows transportation (Roads, Bus Routes, and Bike Lanes) the Second Map in the upper right hand corner is a Map of Land Use or Zoning. and Lastly the third map on the lower center portion of the picture is points of interest such as fast food locations or bookstores within the area.

#Data #GISChat is there an award or a list of agencies (private or public) that have real high quality data? I am looking for a standard to get an understanding of what that looks like. I tend to think the City of Denver and NYC Open Data have some of the best publicly available data.

I went to that park for an awesome light festival. It was a lantern festival and it was fantastic it's wonderful that I can ride past it, cause now I know how to get there.

#BikeSky I biked (rough estimate) 33 miles today (my app didn't capture my initial ride out on the same path) my ass hurts and other bike folks have told me I need a new saddle but it was a great fall day for a ride.

I can't say because I used Qgis in grad school when everyone else was using arcmap so... Shurg I have no idea. Once I left school I immediately took an ArcPro training and never looked back.

At least I am making this map in Qgis I absolutely hate the labeling engine in ArcGIS Pro.

I guess. I am just not sure that's good science. Now I don't write out my notes for every single map I make but more often then not over started to write out my process and I think it has made me a better analyst. Maybe not a great cartographer.... But definitely a better analyst.
