A red panda (Ailurus fulgens) looking like itโs about to nom on some leaves growing from the tree it is climbing. Itโs positioned behind the leaves with a tree branch going up and out of the left frame. The pandaโs face has those iconic raccoon-like markings in black, white and orange. We can see their soft left ear.

A driftwood log is washed up on a sandy beach. The underside of the log is covered with pelagic gooseneck barnaclesโstalkedโ barnacles, attached by a fleshy peduncle to the log. The spade-shaped body of each barnacle is surrounded by calcareous plates. The barnacles exposed to the sun are drying and falling apart; their plates litter the sand beneath the log.
A close-up of some of the barnacles. The ones in the shade are in much better condition.
Clues to an ocean journey: the underside of this driftwood log is covered with pelagic, โstalkedโ gooseneck barnacles. They live their entire lives offshore, attaching as adults to floating objects. A dense aggregation like this would likely take months to form. #Lepas #MarineLife #Invertebrate ๐๐ฆ

- *Demonstrates sophisticated Indigenous knowledge of eelgrass meadows*
- *Identified several new fish species used in Wiyot aquaculture*
- *Highlights the importance of combining multiple research methods*
Final graphic includes a QR code leading to the anthropology publication about eelgrass meadows, with credit to the creatives who made the graphical abstract. http://doi.org/10.1016/j.jas.2025.106267

Illustration of a female Yellow-breasted Greenfinch in flight with a whole load of seeds in her mouth to bring back to the nest. As she flies, she loses some, which fall toward the viewer, getting slightly larger in our perspective.
