A small fire at the front of the bookshop was started last night after rubbish bags that were awaiting collection were set on fire. The guards don’t have reason at this time to believe it was a targeted attack. Thankfully the damage was limited and everyone is safe. We are open for business as usual

Brid Duggan sister of Peg , Annie and Sarah. Brid was a national school teacher near her home in Blackpool Cork. Unlike her three sisters she was a staunch supporter of De Valera she had a photo of him displayed prominently at her home on Cathedral Street.

Back in 2021 after some searching found the grave of May and Lil Conlon at Kilcrea Friary Cork. Lil's book "Cumann na mBan and the women of Ireland " is well worth reading. Great information on the War of Independence in the Cork area.

Sarah Langford one of the Duggan sisters from Blackpool Cork a seamstress by trade worked from home had to endure numerous raids on the house by the Black and Tans a friend of Michael Collins she supported the treaty. She went through great difficulties to get a pension for her service.

Left to right Lil Conlon, Sarah Duggan, Kate Breen from Kerry is standing ( not properly visible) and May Conlon all republican. All except Kate Breen supported the treaty. Kate eventually became a Fianna Fail councillor. The Conlons lived in Shanakiel Cork.

Nora Giles O Daly Nationalist member of Cumann na mBan. The Black and Tans described her as a very dangerous woman she took the pro treaty side in the Civil War. She became secretary of the Dail Courts . She died. May 1943 aged 59.

Peg Duggan from Thomas Davis Street Cork had a flower shop with her sister by Parliament Bridge they were members of Cumann na mBan. Peg's shop was a hot bed of activity during the war of Independence. She supported the treaty. There was a Peg Duggan branch of Fine Gael.
