I know all the various defenses of piracy, and can agree with some of them (preservation is important!) but when it comes to books, there really ain't any excuse I buy. More than any other medium, authors directly rely on royalties from purchases. Every purchase gets them income, even from big pubs.

I hate that negativity gets all the amplification by social media algorithms.
