Did you know there’s a unique connection between cultured #Tahitian black #pearls and the USA? Pearl farmers use shell fragments from freshwater mussels in the Mississippi River Basin to create a pearl nucleus that is inserted into the oyster. The #pearl forms around the nucleus. bit.ly/4fYtatK

These oyster shells, and the net holding them, used to float in the South Pacific Ocean near a tiny, beautiful island in French Polynesia called Huahine. They were growing Tahitian black pearls. We bought this piece from a local pearl farm after the oysters had reached the end of their lifespan.
