The moon is on the left and each planet is labeled with an eye for visible (Mercury & Venus), a binocular symbol (Jupiter & Saturn), or a telescope symbol (Uranus & Neptune) to indicate how best to view them.
This weekend, don't forget to check out a rare 6-planet alignment shortly after sunset on Saturday, February 28. Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus will be visible from our vantage point here on Earth - although you will likely need a telescope for Uranus and Neptune. 🔭🌏

I think this is a leucistic dark-eyed junco. It’s been hanging around my backyard all season with a flock of standard-color juncos. These photos are from December 21 and February 22.
Low image quality because I have to sit still and zoom in all the way with my phone. The juncos scatter if I move. 🪶
The bright sun came out unexpectedly yesterday so we stopped by Commonwealth Lake on the way to the grocery store. Thrilled to see these three Double Creasted #Cormorants !

This red tail hawk perched on deck close to kitchen window. I feed the birds year round. He was looking for easy prey. When I shooed him, he made this quuzzical look.

That's a Giant Kelp holdfast or base clinging to rocks on a shallow part of a reef. The mass migration of urchins seeking food is called an "urchin stampede". The holdfast is only a fraction of the mass of a kelp stand so this behavior is very destructive. This happens when their predators are gone.

Escher on a bad day and has more stairways than storeys and those rows of shelves which end in little doors that are surely too small for a full-sized human to enter. The relevant equation is: Knowledge = power = energy = matter = mass; a good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read." Terry Pratchett, Guards! Guards!
