28.09.2025 09:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, it is frustrating that it's taken this long, although I can sort of understand their rationale; keep to "do one thing and do it right", especially with a limited team and budget.
Keenly; only storage management, *not* data management.

28.09.2025 00:47 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Early references to "TrueNAS WebShare" & "truenas-file-manager" amongst the recent push for the TrueSearch indexer has me excited for a potential resolution to NAS-100085: "Web GUI File Management" after all these years.

That's fair! I didn't necessarily take you for one.
I just happen to've had great luck doing this exact type of cloud-to-cloud copy since it's meant for this sort of thing, so thought a mention at least was worthwhile ^^.
May your transfer be stable and hashes valid, good luck!
Apologies if that came off, aggressive or objectionable?

09.09.2025 21:34 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I really just wish I had friends, with even the slightest of interest in programming for the fun of it, who might be as inexperienced as I but yet just as eager to learn.
09.09.2025 21:32 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I have very difficult feelings when it comes to LLM's in coding.
One one hand I've finally been able grasp concepts I've been struggling to learn for years, decades even, by finally having some-*thing* to discuss my uncertainties with.
But, their nature is unquestionably unethical
Setting up continuous CI/CD just to feel something...
08.09.2025 17:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Those are both pretty vague aims that ultimately don't make for much of a project directive.
Something I omitted to point out further is also the political undertones of a project to offer a replacement to GNU tools under an MIT license.
uutils is certainly not unique in that regard, but still.
The stock answer for justifying Rust rewrites tends to be "memory safety", but I personally think what's more interesting is it's improved developer experience and opportunity for refactoring long-standing projects such as these with the benefits of hindsight.
06.09.2025 17:50 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0There's promising signs of performance improvements (reported on as recently as just 4 hours ago in the case of uutils: github.com/uutils/coreu...), but also new features being offered. I'm particularly interested in their extensions, such as progress indicators for cp/mv:

I think the Baloo indexer (KDE) may be holding it busy but, since this worked before, the question remains why it didn't stop earlier, especially since this didn't happen to me before.
06.09.2025 15:13 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I appreciate your research! I unfortunately read all too few man pages.
Looking closer at my particular case, it does appear to get logged by the systemd journal (have a look yourself via `journalctl -b-1` if you haven't already), although all I'm getting in way of an error here is "target is busy"
My system however seems to still reboot after a few minutes of waiting, but since my root has been unmounted long before that, I have no logs for what timeout (watchdog?) it is that finally pulls a reset.
