He knows the world around him, and he connects with it differently.

I wrote a book about my son, about the days his brother dreamed up, about autism, about nonspeakers, about joy, about love, about connection.

I wrote a book about autism that isn’t just “this is a book about autism.”
I think I did that.

I didn’t want you to fear my son.
I wanted you to know he likes to go outside.
He likes to spin barefoot in the grass.
He loves the park. Fries. Nuggets. Orange soda.

It’s a love letter to them both.
It’s how I fight assumptions that make this world harder for them.
It’s how I make them more seen. More known. More felt.

It’s for those who speak.
It’s for those who do not.

Mostly, it’s for my boys.

The one with no speech.
And the one who told me to have days when we didn’t speak at all.

Oh, it’s for the Littles. And the Bigs. And the young. And the young at heart.
It’s for the Autistics. It’s for the Allistics. It’s for the Neurotypical.
It’s for the disabled. It’s for the teachers. It’s for the therapists.
It’s for the doctors. It’s for the researchers.

So, I wrote this book, right?
And it’s a pretty awesome book.

Short read, about 600 words, 48 pages.
You could finish it in 8 minutes 48 seconds, even with time to show the pictures to the Littles.

If our systems weren't so tied to privilege and wealth as sources of power, perhaps we wouldn't be so "business as usual" after a major healthcare CEO is killed. People aren't heartless—they lacked the care and access these CEOs had, watching loved ones suffer and die from preventable conditions.

Thanks. I tell myself that rejections come with the territory, they cannot publish all books but part of me is like, yes, yes we can publish all the books. The rejections hurt. Even when you have had many of them. Still hurts.

Traditional publishing is pouring my lifeblood into my writing, convincing a pub to publish it, not why the world needs this book, & then having one person tell me, "we're gonna pass."

I have to constantly tell myself that my work is good enough. I literally have to will myself to keep going.

Thank you. Years of practice. I'm not near where I would like to be when encountering these people but a bit better than I was before.

He always doubts himself so it's good to know others can see what i see in him. Thank you.
