Yeah I mean, pretty much everyone in my tech sphere uses AI or LLMs to adjust their own language. It's hard for me to knock or bother with that so long as I'm getting someone's story but I get if that knocks people out.
I don't think we have a choice but to tolerate it.
"The abstraction ship sailed decades ago. We just didnโt notice because each layer arrived gradually enough that we could pretend we still understood the whole stack. AI is just the layer that made the pretence impossible to maintain."
Stewing on this one.

Yes, in the tech sense but also in the "omg enough snow" point of the non-stop winter.

Too many believe that bots will do the mundane work, really well, while we sit back and chill.
NEVER been the case so I'm not thinking this time will be.
This this this.
The "it's inevitable" talk gets me just as fired up as this wild hype cycle and too many people trip into it. Yes, the powers-that-be are intensely shoving but it doesn't change that *it comes down to whether anyone uses this stuff at scale*
And I'll give that I spent time in my career in highly-regulated verticals so lliiiiike this is all too normalized for me and why moving fast and breaking shit never appealed.
We know humans are the ones to break.
It's the usual reaction to ANY effort to put some "hey, did you think about..." Qs in the front. Plus, people are applying GDPR energy to it all on top.
I'm at least happy (shocked?) to see people on LI saying how thinking ahead makes it all easy hahaha
GO.
FIGURE.
Watching the AI Act get framed as a showstopper on LinkedIn is another clear indicator that people don't give a damn about any accountability in this "EVERYONE GO BUILD SHIT, FAST" dash.

Absolutely! It's a civic duty of mine to break cycles around us and I sure as hell won't do it with strangers if I can't do it at home.
These two are my lil pavers hah
As much as I want to eyeroll the mass cancellations and suddenly-horrified reactions to the status quo in tech, I have to remind myself that we all have our own journeys, biases, and bubbles to pop.
For those arriving today, there's plenty of room on board. Keep your mind open to more patterns.
Yup agreed. I refuse to go the nihilist path since giving up on humanity and future generations = guaranteed end game shit.
Also being pregnant and having a young child is the kick in the pants to get off my bullshit and leverage privileges while they last.
We all can still play many parts.
Oh absolutely. There's no denying the righteousness mixed with echo chambers in an increasingly siloed society, bubbling up by design to make our own mini universes.
It's another reason I'm more discouraged over time: these are all compounding issues that remove common threads. Brutal.
I appreciate it, fwiw. I know we all know that being a stick in the mud is considered worse than genocide in this industry but I still like catching as many shared nods and bits of energy that point to some people tryingggg to salvage.

Now now where's the "move fast, break [people and profit]" records with that approach?!?
(Yes yes ideally)
That's exactly it. I try hard to never absolve myself from this industry's gross reality while desperately trying to align to less toxic products.
But these hype cycles make it harder and harder with fewer guardrails in the mix *that we could otherwise build*
Aaaaand there's Anthropic on Sunday Morning (I know, I know, but I watch to catch what crap gets said) dodging softballs and saying they like to "play neutral." ๐

They also control X, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Whatsapp, Tiktok, Truth, and Twitch. They control the AI you're integrating into your lives, the algorithms feeding your content, and your personal data you've given up for access. This is all by design to facilitate and surveil us, and we're not talking enough about it. Pay attention.
I like the summary of this, especially to remind non-tech friends and family.
The damning thing I am obligated to add is how people in tech definitely know all of this and yet here we are.
And no, switching to Anthropic isn't saving your soul. ๐
