run 27 was on wednesday! it was my first run by myself and also first time on neighborhood sidewalks! mostly flat except one big hill which i walked. i wanted to go faster so i did a lot of shorter bursts. i ended up doing a little under 2 miles in 30 min! pretty happy with that!

After 13 years in the US, I’ve made the difficult decision to leave. Having packed up everything and rethought about priorities, rather painstakingly, while I’m sad to leave the life I’ve made here, I’m also relieved that I won’t have to plan my life around immigration policies anymore.

I felt like Wild Faith referenced without explanation a lot of people and events I wasn't familiar with, and some of them I had trouble finding with an initial (quick) search so I found it harder to get through 😔 possibly also because I was reading it on Libby? going to try getting a physical copy!

A multi-ethnic collective of garment workers.
"Social unionism" meant the union did more than fight for better wages. It provided affordable housing, health benefits, and unemployment insurance. Since many garment workers were newly arrived immigrants, the union would also teach people English.

A tattered red bandana from that period.
The coal miners lost that 1921 battle, but they also laid the groundwork for future labor gains. The Battle of Blair Mountain became a rallying point for labor rights in Appalachia, catalyzing the United Mine Workers of America. The red bandana also stood for multi-ethnic class solidarity.
