When the Columbia came to Buffalo, I was hired to take photos at a reception aboard the boat. We were told to stay within "safe" areas and I did. But I fell through the floor anyway. People rushed at me to help. I threw them my camera and my wallet. But I didn’t fall all the way through, thank God!

This is the Columbia, docked in Buffalo for repairs. The work is slow and expensive, but I heard that some new funding has come through so fingers crossed.

I had a photo editing program with a kaleidoscope filter. Select part of a photo, input how many reflections you want, and it did the rest. It was unpredictable but fun. We’re used to right angles and curves in architecture, but a 9-sided or 13-sided image is strange and exotic.

p.s. this is Electric Tower, originally the Buffalo home of Niagara Mohawk (now National Grid). It's currently mixed use including some residential.

I walk by this building several times each week while the weather is nice. I take a photo nearly every time. I've yet to truly capture how beautiful it is on a sunny day.

Buffalo's Guaranty Building, designed by Louis Sullivan, was completed in 1896. Sullivan once said "we should refrain entirely from the use of ornament for a period of years." I'm glad he ignored his own advice.

I knew as I focused, I'd love this photo. And I do. A few seconds later I moved to my left. Under the staircase was a mattress and some belongings. Clearly where homeless people were sleeping. I think about that day a lot, especially as Thanksgiving approaches.
