China’s cash-strapped local governments drive record sales of asset-backed securities ABS issues bring in badly needed money but some assets are of uncertain quality

This is wild. At no point at the peak of structural adjustment would you have heard the IMF or WB say:

β€˜Turn every possible state-owned resource into an asset, every possible state-owned asset into a security, and leverage all possible state-owned funds.’

Letter: The economist’s blind spot From Dr Ingrid Harvold Kvangraven, Senior Lecturer & Undergraduate Programme Director, King’s College, London WC2, UK

What's wrong with the Acemoglu argument that liberalism can save the working class? Very many things, of course...(!!)
I make a small intervention about what he misses about the nature of global capitalism in today's @financialtimes.com

... *decolonization*, but we make a very distinct argument in the book linking Eurocentrism & the rise of the Econ discipline very clearly to *capitalism*. In fact I'd agree with CortΓ©s' critique of some decolonial strands & distance our book from that kind of argument.

The banality of evil: how Epstein’s powerful friends normalised him Long after his conviction for sexual abuse, people in royalty, academia, business, journalism and politics sought his ear

The only amusing thing about Summers/Epstein is this journalist referring to Summers as a "leftwing academic". LOL.

Also, how did it take so many so long to peg Summers as a wrong'un? Already in 1991 he was trumpeting the economic logic of "dumping a load of toxic waste in the lowest wage country".

My analysis of his year's Economics Nobel is out in EPW! What's wrong with the Economics Nobel this time around? I've written a little commentary arguing that the Prize rewards Eurocentric foundations for (innovation-driven) growth and supports a technology fetish. PDF: ingridhk.com/wp-content/u...

Norway suspends $2.1tn oil fund’s ethics rules to avoid selling Big Tech stakes Jens Stoltenberg says move will avoid forced sale of shares in Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet over their work for Israel

Now that election season is over, Norway again shows its true imperial face: Ethical guidelines for the Sovereign Wealth Fund to be loosened because of fear that they'll *actually* safeguard against investment in genocide.

The Norwegian Petroleum Museum in Stavanger: good on history of politics & econ of industry but ends on a fantasy note: techno-optimist, green growth, no mention renewables being additive + crazy focus on individual action for climate change 🫣 State/Petroleum ideology in action?
