The regime is acting this way because there are no consequences so it is clear that consequences—the development of them, the advocacy for them, the imposition on bad behavior—are the answer to our crisis.

Don’t worry, once we’ve helped them come for immigrants and trans people, they’re sure to be appeased and dedicated to solidarity in our great big tent and not come after anyone else, as history teaches

There is no compromise policy Democrats can offer Republicans to make them act normal on this issue. We simply have to state the basic reality — immigrants contribute to our country in myriad ways — and fight for it. I don't know how so many journalists convinced themselves this isn't an option.

Substantively, you can certainly have land use reform without rent regulation, or vice versa. But politically, I think they have to work together as two sides of a program of challenging the power of big landowners on behalf of tenants (and aspiring homeowners.)

The homeless are painful to look at because they remind us of how unfair our world is, of how much suffering it contains, of how arbitrary and undeserved and precarious our own comforts and health are, of how we have failed to be sufficiently generous and merciful to others.

put street trees everywhere you can in a neighborhood, make curb cuts so that their roots can absorb storm water from the street, grow native plants around their base, check back in five years and count how many welfare and health measures have improved

Denver City Council abolishes parking minimum requirements for new development
Developers can now build new housing and business complexes without including a set number of parking spots.
"City planners pointed to other major cities in the United States that have abolished parking minimums, like Austin and Minneapolis. They found that those changes led to reduced development costs, more housing units and improved walkability and transit options..."

ICE and allies hit Ambridge with ‘most intense’ roundup yet seen in Pittsburgh region
Beaver County law enforcement partnered with federal immigration agents in the “most intense” roundup to date. Two bystanders were also arrested.
“Our average police force who are sworn to protect and serve, were cooperating with ICE in ripping families apart, taking people off the street for the color of their skin …They’re terrorizing people.”

East End tenants accuse Riparian Management of hostility and greed
Riparian Management's tenants say they’ve faced utility problems, poor communication, and sudden notices to vacate.
Riparian Management bought up most of Wylie Holdings' massive portfolio of Lawrenceville real estate — then basically ghosted their new tenants and kicked many of them out of their homes. My latest (Pt. 1 of 2)

Possibly this is a Northeast-specific perspective, but in my experience you never see the main opposition to upzoning and land use reform coming from affordable-housing advocates. It’s always from people who just like cars and parking lots!

Happy 35th to GHOST. Saw a sneak-preview of it with DAYS OF THUNDER. I remember two burly guys came in after me loudly complaining about having to sit through a sissy movie just to see DAYS OF THUNDER. After GHOST ended, one of them was crying and the other one was comforting him.
