Heron's are such photogenic birds. Mine was Maggie and her handsome son (I assume) scratching through last night's scraps in the kitchen garden. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

The holy trinity of local birds, magpies, cockatoos and ravens were all in abundance on this morning’s walk along the eastern ranges track but the highlight was a flock of 7 yellow-tailed black cockatoos flying low and close enough for me to see their yellow eyes. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Currawongs calling in the early morning then one swooped into the lillypilly tree as I walked out to the verandah. A noisy miner was just a branch or two behind him. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #Whatsyours

I love that description - a medley is often what I hear first thing in the morning, all up in the canopies though so not always able to be seen. At least I know them all by sound.

I saw a flock of cockatoos adorning the branches of a gum tree as I drove down the hill this morning. I couldn't help but admire the beautifully spaced white bodies amongst the grey/green leaves. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

I have been there but nearly 30 years ago.

The male magpie beat Maggie to the scraps this morning. I spread them around but he managed to get them all. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Looks like the Lotus temple in New Delhi.

A host of lorikeets chattering away in the elms but as they were cunningly disguised as elm leaves I didn’t get to see them. Fortunately a pied currawong swooped down low onto a branch, announcing itself with a beautiful song and was rewarded with #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

I’d say that would be fairly accurate. They’re beautiful birds to look at.

The sweetest thing is splashing my face with cold water in the bathroom basin then looking out the window and seeing a pied currawong splashing around in the bird bath just a few feet away. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Three noisy miners perching on the clothes line and another 5 or 6 close by in the Lilly Pilly tree but my heart went out to a cockatoo flying towards the house, white feathers shining against the murky, ominous clouds gathering this morning. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Flashes of emerald green against the sky, constant chirping and furiously flapping wings can only be rainbow lorikeets gathering in the elms. Meanwhile a currawong silently glides to the telegraph pole on the fence line for a brief look before flying over the valley. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Democracy is dying in America.

ICE is a murderous secret police force. We’re about to bomb Iran for Israel. Your kids are shot at in school daily, and pedophiles run our government. There’s no healthcare, and your food is poisonous.

We need real leaders - not career politicians.

Two magpies in my kitchen garden rummaging in the wet mulch after the magnificent rain last night. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

A pair of noisy miners striding along the back fence, one of them giving me a side eye - cheeky blighter! #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

They’re such extroverts compared to the thornbills - very acrobatic.

A very noisy, mixed flock of little birds in the shrubs and trees near the front verandah. A couple of grey fantails swooping up and down and at least a dozen thornbills darting all over the place. Captivating! #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Maggie was first bird, looking at me washing up as she searched the dried up mulch on the kitchen garden. 12 hours later a pied currawong is in the same garden, perched on the railings, maybe wondering what is this cold watery thing coming out of the sky. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

A pair of yellow-tailed black cockatoos flying over my garden, large wings flapping elegantly in that very slow, deliberate way. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

I read that as ‘angelled’ wings and thought how appropriate for a dove 😇

Just the males of course. The females are much softer in colour with green mixed with the blues and red.

A magpie warbling on the front lawn (not Maggie) and a couple of crimson rosellas flying past.

A flurry of grey feathers in the agapanthus and a red wattlebird emerged from the blue flowers. 3 ravens on the grass studiously ignoring the kerfuffle. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

The grey fantail was back, cavorting on the side fence in the shade, fantail on full display. The brown thornbills were more discreet, flitting about in the snowball tree on the fence line and above us the currawongs were in full song, enjoying the blustery weather. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
