On this Veterans Day I think of my grandfathers, who on my mom and stepmom’s side both lied about their age to enlist during WW2, and on my dad’s side who was drafted during the Korean War, served through the Vietnam War, and served in Europe with Elvis and had coffee with Eisenhower.

It’s weak, feckless bullshit like tonight that made me decide to leave the Democratic Party and register as an independent. Primary them all.

We’ve been boycotting Target since the beginning of the year, got vaccinated today at CVS inside our closest Target, walked around the store for a few because I was early, and it’s amazing how much everything on the shelves just looked like useless, overpriced crap.

Fun fact! States are not required by law to have or maintain a National Guard. They can choose to organize State Defense Forces which operate like National Guard but can’t be federalized.

I bring this up for no reason whatsoever.

Remember in Battlestar Galactica when the Cylons occupied New Caprica, and recruited humans to be part of the New Caprica police, and they wore masks because deep down they knew they were the bad guys and feared retribution?

I bring this up for no reason whatsoever.

I’ve been cursed with being really good at what I do for a living but absolutely hating what I do for a living.

It weighs on me more and more with each useless meeting, email, and complaining person who makes much more money than I do.

My hope for this #LaborDay weekend is that in between BBQs and beers, Americans remember that it has been the hard work of labor that forced the robber barons and politicians to agree to the comparatively small amount of days off we have in this country. #ApesTogetherStrong

In less than 24 hours I’ve seen two instances of people asking strangers for favors/info (one of they were leaving a parking spot, the other being let in from a locked stairwell), then immediately give the person attitude afterwards. The sense of entitlement people have is fucking WILD these days.

Another sign these β€œICE” officers aren’t really law enforcement (aside no standardized uniform, wearing masks, shooting at unarmed civilians, and refusal to properly identify themselves) is they don’t have body cameras. Instead they use phones to record people who question them. #fuckICE

Did you know? #Alaska has the highest rate of plane crashes in the country, and a number of high-profile people have been killed in Alaskan plane crashes over the decades, including politicians (Stevens, Begich, Boggs, etc.)

I bring this up today for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Finished Sam Wasson’s β€œThe Big Goodbye”, and it’s a great book not just about making of Chinatown, but also the personal histories of many of its key contributors, a history of Hollywood through the late 60s, its simultaneous renaissance and decline in the 70s, and a history of LA. Read it! #BookSky

The next couple of price hikes (at least!) for streaming services are a direct result of their parent companies shelling out billions for live sports rights, whether you give a shit about live sports or not. My advice? Get comfortable with turning your subscriptions off and on to save some cash.

Back in middle school I took classes at a career center to explore possible career paths. One was how to produce TV shows (shocker), but another was first aid & rescue, where I learned about the importance of triage. People who are truly concerned about our country really need to focus on triage.

Average daily miles driven in the US is 37-41. Level 1 charging can add around 4mi/hr of range, so that’s like 10 hours of charging to replace those miles. I’m willing to bet that a majority of cars that drive average daily distances are parked overnight for at least that long.

About halfway through β€œThe Big Goodbye” by Sam Wasson, about the making of the film Chinatown, very interesting. Reading about Evans and Towne’s personal histories and the way they worked is fascinating. Polanski, OTOH, is gross and an insufferable ass both personally and professionally. #BookSky

The welcome return of Star Trek Strange New Worlds is a reminder that humans should rejoice in our differences and work together for the common good and welfare of all.

Then I see the news and how awful so many people treat others simply because they are different, and that really sucks.
