A photo of four framed engravings on a wall, 2 rows of 2 artworks each, and the wall plaque
A half-length portrait in a black frame of a man in a dark jacket and a white collar. His right hand is visible at the bottom of the painting, holding a small book.
A three-quarter length portrait of an unsmiling white woman standing outdoors, perhaps on a porch. She wears a wimple and a black gown under a white cloak. At the right side of her waist a rosary hangs from a belt; a cross dangles at the bottom of the rosary. Her right hand holds the fabric of her cloak. Her left arm bends at the elbow so that her left hand sits at about her waist; in it she holds an open book.
A photo of a small paper cutting in a brown frame, encased in a clear case for display. The artwork features the Star of David at the center and the monogram “AM” at the top and bottom.
1) What a wonderful exhibition!
We'll have more to say on the blog, but for now - see this show if you can!

Eliphaz, Bildad y Zophar consolando a Job, 1730

Judith Leyster, a 17thC Dutch artist. She's sitting at her easel proping her right elbow on the post of her chair and holding her paintbrush in her right hand. In her left hand she grips her palette through the thumbhole, and holds several more paintbrushes. Her head turns towards the viewer, smiling. She's wearing a white cap and a huge white disc of a neck ruff over a purple dress. On the easel is a painting of a violin player.

A glorious profusion of flowers sitting on a stone ledge, in the right edge of which is the artist's signature. According to the text on the museum object page, "Luscious white and orange lilies, peonies, cabbage roses, and striated tulips compete for attention in a sumptuous display. Glistening dewdrops on the petals suggest that the blossoms are freshly cut. Indeed, their scent continues to attract hovering insects."
