Today I sued the Trump Administration to stop the latest round of illegal tariffs. Only Congress can levy taxes, not the President. This latest scheme is an attempt to circumvent SCOTUS’ recent ruling and the limitations on the President’s authority established by the Constitution and Congress.

This is a win for Vermont families and small businesses who have been impacted by rising costs caused by the President’s unlawful tariffs. This is also a win for the rule of law - the Court held that the President cannot usurp authority the Constitution vests in Congress.

Today the Supreme Court ruled in favor of our multistate coalition declaring President Trump’s broad tariffs unconstitutional. The Court held that IEEPA does not authorize the President to impose tariffs - a tax on Americans.
