Years of war in eastern #DRC are written on the bodies of civilians. An @AFP article highlights hundreds of amputees in Goma: men, women, and children who survived bombs, mines, and bullets during the #Rwanda-backed M23 offensives that seized Goma and Bukavu. Farmers like David Muhire lost limbs while grazing cattle; children now learn to walk on plastic prostheses. In the meanwhile, despite a US-brokered peace deal signed in Washington, violence has continued, with new M23 attacks launched days later. Humanitarian centers are overwhelmed, under-resourced, and struggling to cope as the war grinds on. This is the predictable outcome of a conflict sustained by impunity. Rwandan president @paulkagame bears responsibility for the atrocities committed by M23 terrorists, whose offensives have left thousands dead and mutilated. While Kigali lies about peace, Congolese civilians pay with their limbs and lives. A peace agreement must enforce accountability. The international community must stop enabling this cycle, impose consequences, and prioritize justice for the victims. Without accountability for Kagame’s role, there will be no lasting peace; only more amputees, more graves, and more broken futures
