I read "Thank You, Jeeves" and agree. Wooster was a complete fool and would never have amounted to much in a meritocracy

You remind me of my neighbor. One winter's day, he was standing by his garage door in shorts and a t-shirt smoking (his wife wouldn't let him smoke in the house).
Me: man, I'm cold just looking at you.
Him: Cold? Ya call this cold? I'm from New York. This is like a Spring day back there.
Sometimes loneliness doesnβt knock.
It seeps into your bones.

It's PUBLICATION DAY for my debut novel, IN THE DESERT!
I've been writing for decades (many) and this is such a hugely big day for me.
Thank you so much to my publisher @cowboyjamboree.bsky.social for believing in this book and to everyone who has helped along the way!

I was never a big fantasy fan growing up. There's less than one shelf devoted to fantasy on my bookshelves, but I regret not reading him sooner.

02.03.2026 17:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Read it recently and it didn't age well. There were too many anachronisms for this day and age, let alone for 2082. Using a TYPEWRITER, hunting down a newspaper rack and dropping coins in it to find out the latest news, sitting down with a pen and paper to write a letter to be mailed, etc.

It's been a while since I watched it, but "dame" was probably used as well as "bull" for cop, "take a powder" for running away, "duck soup" for easy, "shamus" for private detective, etc. Dialogue you would expect from Humphry Bogart. It was definitely a fun watch.

Love noir. One of my favorite movies is Rian Johnson's Brick. In it, a high school kid investigates his ex-girlfriend's murder. Johnson peppers the movie with the anachronistic dialogue and slang of old 1940's movies.

TBR Update
Last Read: Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. First Pratchett I've read, and I loved it. Damn, my TBR is already long, and now more Pratchett added.
Current read: Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman
On Deck: The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum

That simile was so over the top that it made me laugh. From your description, I'm guessing that was the writer's goal.

Lone Justice - Shelter
Lone Justice released two albums before calling it quits in '87. Maria McKee had some success as a solo artist afterwards.
