Happy #InternationalWomensDay to all the #women in my life.

I’ve been so fortunate to have had incredible female role models throughout my career, from having a female supervisor in my undergrad, my masters, and my PhD, to now being surrounded by incredible women at work.

I am so grateful. πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ’ͺ

Arrows point to "Reduced negative impacts" and "Increased negative impacts." Figure b shows a scatter plot of effect size vs thermal position with a fish illustration on top. "Biomass change estimates" indicated by circle size.

A study published in Nature Ecology & Evolution reports that long-term ocean warming reduces global fish biomass by up to 19.8% annually. Warmer years and marine heatwaves were linked to sharp biomass losses of up to 43.4%. go.nature.com/40b6AIB πŸ§ͺ 🌍

#BlackGuillemots are widely distributed #seabirds, nesting under rocks along coastlines, which makes surveying an entire population challenging.

This project is a great example of #CommunityBasedMonitoring that will support the assessment of #guillemot populations in the UK!

What a great #CitizenScience initiative to better understand #BlackGuillemot populations in Ireland!

We should consider something similar for the Canadian #Arctic, where we know little about Black #Guillemots across their range.

Spatial overlap alone downplays the level of interaction between a central place forager and the local fishery While spatial overlap is commonly used to quantify interactions, it may underestimate the true degree of competition between foraging predators and fishing vessels. New research introduces β€œoverlap intensity”, a metric that goes beyond area shared by #seabirds and #fishing vessels to include how many #birds are affected, showing stronger competition for prey than overlap metrics alone.

A useful tool for #fisheries management and #MarineProtectedArea planning!
