And FYI, if I were still at my previous postdoc, I would not have a paycheck now, in a town that is expensive enough that within 4 weeks rent would be a problem. My union did say they could help us when we went through an almost-shutdown, but it wasn't like RENT it was more like food.

My first thought is "I don't like you." Anyhoop, I'm not applying for faculty jobs this year but I do look over the postings. I wouldn't fit in with a bunch of self-proclaimed geniuses, that is for sure. I love physicists who love physics and Nature herself 💜 & still feel awe, wonder, humility 💜

I mean, clearly to apply for a position at Oxford, even at the postdoctoral level, we have some idea, some hope that our work and our selves have value. It doesn't hurt to apply! But when I see jobs that imply they are looking for genius-level people who publish tons of papers/year...well...
