And, while Means may be wrong about most things, on this topic she is not. A broken clock...etc. Psilocybin has enormous positive potential...as do other psychedelics. And yes, someone having some sort of religious experience should not disqualify them from public life. That is too high a bar...

You are saying that people who suffer from psychosis take psychedelics and hurt themselves? Ok. That sucks. But then we should try and prevent that from happening, rather than ban wholesale, preventing huge benefits for the many more people without psychosis.

People who suffer from psychosis should not take Psilocybin as it can exacerbate their tendency to disassociate. The incidence of negative outcome for people who are not psychotic is...very low. Alcohol is far more dangerous and far less beneficial (THC too).

She may be a terrible SG candidate for many reasons, but personal use of, and even encouragement of use of, psilocybin is not one of them. Psychedelics have immense, almost miraculous, power to heal...as shown in many recent studies and drug trials. The work being done is so positive.

So disappointed in the average Bluesky response to this! There is so much work to do to educate people who I would have thought would be more educated and open minded on this topic already.

What study after study, whether academic or the pharmaceutical / commercial ones linked above, shows is that these drugs (psilocybin, DMT, MDMA, ketamine, mescaline and ibogaine) are 1) safe (with some exceptions) and 2) exceptionally effective for many mental illnesses.

I am *really* disappointed in the Bluesky reaction to this. Means may be a terrible pick for SG. HOWEVER, she is absolutely correct that "there's exciting work in that area". The psychedelic renaissance, backed by strong data, is happening. Bluesky people...do some reading before dismissing!

Nope. Not sure what data you are looking at, but this is simply not true. Psilocybin is far safer than alcohol, or SSRIs, or benzos or whatever else people take to try and feel better.
