Art by Arthur Wilde Parsons. Painting of a witch with a pointy hat flying through the night on a broomstick. Full moon. Cloudy, purple sky.
In a Flemish folktale, a fearless man once thought he could chase away witches with a cudgel. The witches had other plans.

Artwork of six cats staring at something or someone in the night. There's a dog or wolf behind them with bared teeth. Black with yellow eyes. Night.
According to a Flemish folktale, a man was walking his two dogs at night when all of a sudden he saw a cat. He threw a stick at the cat because he suspected the animal was a witch. Five minutes later, he found himself surrounded by hundreds of cats who threw mud at him.

Artwork of a woman covering her face with both of her hands (peekaboo). Nails painted red. Butterflies with skull faces surround her.

And grinning skulls, and corruptible death
Wrapp'd in his shroud; and now fancies she hears
Deep sighs, and sees pale sickly ghosts gliding.'

Illustration of a black cat who doesn't seem to be very amused. The cat is sitting on a tree branch. Black and yellow colours.

and with a shock, you see yourself, tiny,
inside the golden amber of her eyeballs
suspended, like a prehistoric fly.'

A drawin in warm and light tones of The Folk at the Rootwood.
Fritti (an orange tabby with a star shaped spot on his forehead) is lying in the foreground amongst red Flowers. He is bathing in rays of yellow light beaming through the canopy. Light green trees form the backdrop while a scattering of cat silhouettes is sitting amonst them. A purple haze in the upper quadrant adds a mystic tone.
βBut our own selves are like pearls, created by layer after layer of present laid over past until the original thing is completely hidden.β

Art by Gabriel Ferrier. Melancholic woman in a white dress holding flowers looking down. Dark background.
'Oh! grief is fantastic; it weaves a web on which to trace the history of its woe from every form and change around; it incorporates itself with all living nature; it finds sustenance in every object; as light, it fills all things, and, like light, it gives its own colours to all.'

Cat posed with Mexican serape, SMU Central University Libraries:
The image is a portrait of a tabby cat, likely an ambrotype or a reproduction of one, presented within an ornate, oval, gilded frame. The cat is positioned on a striped blanket, a Mexican serape, and is looking directly at the viewer. The photograph dates back to around 1862-1868.

A statuette of a Nommo from Mali.
The Nommo are primordial ancestor spirits in the mythology of the Dogon people of Mali, Africa. The Nommo are said to be hermaphroditic, amphibious, fish-like people who came from the sky to bring great wisdom. Modern myths have the Nommo coming from a planet orbiting the star Sirius.

Drawing of Abdul Alhazred, writing the Al-Azif, presumably aided by an avatar of Volgna-Gath . The Mad Arab is lying on the ground, his back resting against a pillow, while the monstrosity, shapeshifted into a semblance of the human form is standing next to him. Done in earthen tones. The title 'abdul alhazred writing the Necronomicon' is written in printed font in the lower left of the picture.
I learned of the spells that cause men illness, the plague, blindness, insanity, and even death. I learned of the various classes of demons and evil gods that exist, and of the old legends concerning the Ancient Ones.
