Silhouette of a woman with an enormous updo hairdo, long 18th century gown, and an absurd hat perched atop.
How can you be talking about HISTORY with everything that's going on. 18th century history? Women's history? Waves hands.
Friends, it is precisely because of everything that's going on that we need to talk about history much, much more.

Christiana Carteaux Bannister is not a name that most people think of when discussing the Civil War. However, sheβs an important actor in my forthcoming book, Out of This Strife Will Come Freedom. She was one of the strongest supporters of the 54th Mass. Inf. during the struggle for equal pay.

In my forthcoming book, Out of This Strife Will Come Freedom, I discuss Baltimore native Thomas Toogood, a free man of color who was a cook on the USS Iroquois. The Iroquois served in the Mediterranean, defending US interests, and in the East Indies, where it chased the rebel raider Shenandoah.
