Lucy Powell: "I think certainly the Greens wouldn't have gone after the seat in the same way that they did."

As ever, Labour don't get it - we 100% would have gone as hard. Burnham's record in Parliament is not good - voted for Iraq, voted for ID cards, voted for 90 days detention without charge.

Burnham would β€˜probably’ have won byelection, says Labour deputy leader Lucy Powell calls for party to make more use of Greater Manchester mayor after Gorton and Denton defeat

"Andy Burnham would have won the Gorton and Denton byelection, Labour's deputy leader said"

That seems rather insulting to Angeliki Stogia, who has just spent weeks campaigning for you. Stay classy Labour.

Great carnival atmosphere at the counter protest today as Worcester came together to reject hate and say all are welcome here. Hundreds singing, dancing and having fun, far outnumbering those on the other side. Hope beats hate. Thank you everyone who came!

He's not fighting extremes though is he - he's been busily chasing Reform with inhumane immigration policies, even towards people who live here and are valued members of our communities. Compassion is now "left wing extremism" according to Starmer.

100% - Lib Dems still prostrate themselves for a sniff of power.

Let us be absolutely clear here: This is a Reform-Liberal Democrat budget, and your 9% increase is on them both.

26.02.2026 18:10 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Then they said they couldn't support the budget they had applied 7 separate amendments to and walked out - so that they could keep their hands clean from supporting the 9% council tax increase. This meant Reform could pass the vote on their own.

What an insult Worcestershire Liberal Democrats have delivered to the people of Worcestershire. They came to the county council budget meeting with 7 amendments, all of which Reform supported and passed.

As all tactical voting sites agree - Vote Green on Thursday to stop Reform, and properly fix our broken housing system that prioritises profit for some over homes for all.

Labour are on the side of landlords, not tenants. I'm sure the Labour candidate for Gorton and Denton got a lot of ideas for how to fix the affordability of housing from appearing on a property investor podcast.

I've taken a break from creating campaign posters for The Greens (especially for @greenpartyhan.bsky.social in the Gorton and Denton by-election) & regressed to creating one for Labour.

(The ones for Hannah are sincere, but the ones for Labour are more fun to produce.)

TY to @tom-cb.bsky.social!

Ha. It was supposed to be a Green Party β€œbe an MP” thing today, but understandably cancelled due to Gorton & Denton. I couldn’t change my Advance ticket so I went for a tour and filmed a video for our forthcoming fundraising.

Labour lost three council seats last night. 1 each to the Greens, Lib dems and Plaid. Reform were 2nd or 3rd in each.
The Greens also won and beat Reform in another local election.
So when they say vote Labour to stop Reform, they couldn't be more wrong. Vote almost anyone but Labour to beat Reform.

The poll showing the Greens ahead of Reform in 2nd and Labour in 3rd in Gorton amd Denton is the death of the last remaining possible argument for ever voting Labour: "to stop Reform"

Because Labour can't stop Reform. Only the Green Party can.

Regulating drug use saves lives.

When people object to Green policy to decriminalise and regulate drugs, they’re saying they’d prefer addicts die than get help. The inhumanity must end.

If you want to be in a party that won't treat you with utter contempt, join the Greens. Lets talk.

The original decision was wrong for voters. This new u-turn is horrible for Labour councillors who felt requesting cancellation was the right thing to do, and have now been left high and dry by the Labour Government.

Goodness me, the Government has now uncanceled May 2026 local elections "due to legal advice". They must now publish any legal advice they had in the first place that said cancellation was legally sound in the first place.

Green Party policy β€˜Abolish Landlords’: solving the housing crisis The Green Party's 'Abolish Landlords' policy could end the housing crisis with a number of measures that will benefit tenants

A pleasure working with the Green Party's @alexmace.bsky.social and @cmmonwealth.bsky.social's Adam Peggs to put this article together.

Confirmed my longstanding suspicion that landlords are as essential to housing as black mould.

This is a good time to raise that Jim Ratcliffe’s billionaire status is built on the back of the sale of British state assets, as he bought the chemical division of British Petroleum in 1995. Literally extracting our money and then complaining about the state of the country. Disgusting.
