25.01.2025 12:08 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The wine trade is facing a number of challenges right now, not least from neo-Prohibitionists. But it has dealt with crises in the past, argues Andy Neather, and has proved itself to be both creative and adaptable. There are reasons for optimism. timatkin.com/reasons-to-b...

23.12.2024 22:40 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I donโt think weโre keeping anything โelitistโ, whatever that means. Weโve moved a long way from my original premise. Wine is complex if you want it to be, but also very simple. Itโs not an either/or. Itโs both. Career suicide? Donโt make me laugh.
23.12.2024 22:38 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0True enough. Wine writers - including things like Food and Drink - had a much greater influence 20 years ago. They still help to โlegitimiseโ certain wine styles. Australia wouldnโt have happened in the way it did without wine writers. And โinterested consumersโ help to drive change and innovation.
23.12.2024 04:25 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Thatโs not what I meant. Wine writers influence consumer behaviour and the prices people are willing to pay. Itโs not the only factor, but to argue that the market is โautonomousโ is absurd. We can influence what people buy to a degree.
22.12.2024 23:42 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Fine. But itโs not gospel. What does he know about the wine business? As you know, itโs complicated and market and even segment-specific.
