📝 Nieuwe #column geschreven over democratic backsliding in de VS: de VS zijn géén volwaardige liberale democratie meer onder Trump II.

Het is ook een kwestie van werkelijkheid die we kunnen vatten: de stereotypen uit de reportage vs de absolute andere wereld van de 1%. Mensen hebben daar geen beeld van, en worden er dus ook niet politiek gemobiliseerd door...

Uit mijn onderzoek naar percepties rond ongelijkheid blijkt ook dat mensen veel gevoeliger zijn voor 'undeserving' armen dan 'freeridende rijken', en partijen, ook linkse, gaan helemaal mee in deze framing. Vandaar ook het gebrek aan politieke reactie op ongelijkheid ...

En nu we het er toch over hebben: een terugzetting in graad is GEEN sanctie; een paar 100 euro per maand minder verdienen op een salaris >4000 euro is nu niet bepaald een zware straf...

Ooit vatte een collega van me het als volgt samen "Je moet al een moord plegen om ontslagen te kunnen worden als prof". Waarom zijn we zo verbaasd - deze Pano-reportage had vooral nog veel meer lijken uit de kast kunnen halen... Soit, voor meer nuance 👇
