Perhaps you won't agree, but nothing is crueler than a coward. And the slaughter to come is probably beyond our imagining.

orthodox groups which are more supportive of immenatizing the eschaton, not appearing anywhere near this particular story but a relevant contrast

so forcing gods hand will earn his attention (good) vs forcing gods hand will earn his attention (very bad)

I know they consider the attempt to force gods hand unacceptable, but do they think it's possible? forgive my ignorance if this is a silly question

"just more men" is stating that th only advantage the USSR had was population and men under arms, which really is the nazi myth of "human wave attacks"

"the USSR buried them in just more men" is the claim being responded to, which it sounds slick you don't agree with either!

it only takes one dem staffer scrolling twitter and seeing a post about forcing yeshiva students to learn English and going "wait a second...."

ah yes, certainly. but I am an talking from the perspective of interlocutors outside of those communities- which tend to be quite insular! given the backing they have received from democratic politicians (who are terminally online) in this endeavor its not implausible!

im afraid I dont understand

has anyone done the take that enforcing academic standards at yeshivas is cultural imperialism?

it makes sense, if someone conquered you and then said actually we are the real people of this land and the real native inhabitants- you might be inclined to vote for the party which says that they are a different ethnicity unrelated to you.

02.11.2025 17:40 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

which also makes it funnier that the natives themselves tend to vote KMT: the analysis I have read is that they are responding to historical KMT economic programs and are annoyed with the DPP as a Han majority party promulgating a Han centric idea of Taiwanese nation and ethnicity

I belive Felix of the chapotraphouse podcast pretty much said that he would be defending platner is he hadn't condemned Hamas. while I suppose thats somewhat more abstract: I would still regard it as a defense.

and crucially regardless of EY's own stances on the Neo-reactioanaries, the movement he founded got captured by them due to his own mismanagement. Even if theil didnt use EY specifically (he did) he sure as hell used the accumulation of talent and passion that EY put together!

theres sort of an interesting horseshoe theory thing where both left and right rationalists and rationalist adjacent characterize the community in this same way, which now that I think about it really underscores the cultish vibes

02.11.2025 06:09 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

if you google "quokka theory rationalism" the top result is a SSC reddit post linking to a zero HP Lovecraft tweet saying that the predator is the NYT- which is just a stunning inversion of reality given what the NYT was investigating in rationalism circles not to mention zero HPs politics

when asked if jews have reason to be concerned under mamdani she said "well have to see what happens" its the same statement really but perhaps slightly less of a "going there" moment

02.11.2025 05:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

they're HRC dead-enders who reflexively back anything party leadership does and punch left at any opportunity because of their grudge against Bernie Sanders. Their theory of change is that if everyone got on board with the Democratic Party and stopped complaining everything would work out.

02.11.2025 05:46 β€” πŸ‘ 25    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I wouldn’t hold your breath on the HRC endorsement given that she seemed to suggest that Jews might be unsafe under mamdani, and Khive surprisingly doesnt care that much for Kamala Harris!

02.11.2025 05:38 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

he definitely wasnt the driving force behind but he did somewhat back the dropout campaign (iirc)- ultimately they have to blame Obama because they can’t handle Biden dropping out being popular and necessary within the party so they have to blame elites, in this case Obama

02.11.2025 05:37 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

its striking that the blue version of MAGA ultra partisans have coalesced around the party itself and The replaceable leadership therein rather than any specific figure like Trump- people try to suggest they’re the same phenomenon but theres clearly some psychological differences!

02.11.2025 05:35 β€” πŸ‘ 14    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

yeah for sure, as seen by the fctn that their entire beef with mamdani is based on him being associated with Bernie and not anything in his policy platform

02.11.2025 05:29 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

yeah Obama praised him (but didnt endorse) and Kamala said he "should be endorsed" but AFAIK didn't actually endorse- if anything Kamala's statement is stronger!

02.11.2025 05:24 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

in particular not liking Obama for doing the exact same thing (endorsing Mamdani) that Harris has also done!

02.11.2025 05:20 β€” πŸ‘ 21    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

what do they make of Kamala endorsing mamdani (or more accurately saying he should be endorsed) do they just ignore it?
