I have to admit, conducting & reporting this survey on federal impacts to #GreatLakes scientists was tough. Story after story showed how the political is personal. Yet even in the gloom, the dedication of this community shines through. Much respect. 💙

Compelling coverage of those on the front lines re impact of federal actions on #GreatLakes science. Includes an inside look at job loss at a critical federal lab, impact on early career scientists, and more. Stories of impact and resilience, both.

My mom and stepdad are from the same diaspora group as Zohran Mamdani’s dad (same like “my stepdad was kicked out of the same town and knows some of his classmates”) and apparently the New York Times doesn’t understand how diaspora works, so I am going to tell you a little about my mom’s people!
