Honestly, I don't get the calculus. Just announce you're not going to run in a couple months before the primary and ride it out. Seems like their prospects are better on K street or back home UNLESS the idea is to show MTG that they are with her and whatever new faction (party?) she lands on?

Honestly I expect him to sign pardons for ANYONE in his administration for the whole length of his term. The only thing that will be left for satisfaction will be social opprobrium - which she may or may not care about.

I think there are a LOT of Dem Senators who have given up with getting the extension from the GOP who are MORE than willing to let SNAP and Fed workers go without. I don't think the GOP resolve is that strong and they'd buckle eventually, but many Dems aren't as confident.

I'm going to try to make sure any donking on the Dems I do, I'll include a codicil to blame Trump and the GOP. Like adding "...and confusion to the French!" when you toast.

Maybe, but it looks suspicious that he caved on the LAST CR & it ended badly so staying away from this one seems like a good political choice for him. It's entirely plausible, TO ME, that he DID orchestrate this & they worked out who was gonna fall on their sword. 2 are retiring so they are "safe."

I would have supported him saying this but sadly Durbin is too much of a conventional Dem Senator to say this. I'm glad he's retiring. The world is changing.

Forget: actually, I do. Memories are short and cultic ties are strong. Gotta wonder if enough Dems (ok, and caring GOP) actually tide enough (GOP) people over seems like they might figure the 'guv'mint' shouldn't be in the food biz at all.

My only concern is that the GOP caves on the subsidies and nothing else, but the Dems now have their bluff (as it were) called. Is adding that back in enough? I don't think so but it's all the Dems TALK about so hard to know if they can push it further.
