It occurs to me that if university administrations reject shared governance, then why should academics do labor for free in the Faculty Senate?
Most decisions *of importance* are now made by administrators, while the Faculty Senate deliberates over when activity hour should be.

Transit workersβ union worried Halifax micro-transit plan could cannibalize bus routes
Halifaxβs micro-transit plan may have received a green light from council but the transit worker's union wants them to pump the brakes.
Patricio Garcia, the president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, has a lot to say about HRMβs microtransit plan.
βThey are not looking at the actual problem they have, which is that transit worked when I started in 2007 but doesnβt work now. It doesnβt serve the citizens of this city well.β

Most people with real jobs cannot effort to live close to workplaces and requires these commuting options. It will only make it tougher for business to find people able to work.

Understanding the Homelessness Crisis (with data, of course)
Although Iβve been involved with homelessness policy for decades, Iβm NOT an expert at it. Very few city planners are. @nerd4cities.bsky.social admits itβs out of his wheelhouse too, but I appreciate his data-driven approach here. Spoilers: rent rates are key & housing SAVES public money.

Arts and culture in Nova Scotia left reeling from 'unprecedented' cuts - Halifax Examiner
"It's going to be absolutely devastating."
"Museums, Casario noted, provide rural jobs and draw tourists, but they are also crucial to their communities.
'The province needs to understand that a lot of these museums are community hubs, and they offer programming outside just the museum experience β for seniors, youth, kids,' Casario said."

Is this a better option than better BRT along this corridor? It will mainly be useful for persons from well off suburbs who are working downtown as others will be dumped into our poorly designed and under resourced transit system to transfer elsewhere.

Ottawa incentivizes electric vehicle purchases; Nova Scotia makes them more expensive
HALIFAX β As Ottawa incentivizes Canadians to buy electric vehicles or hybrids, Nova Scotia is making it more expensive to drive them. Nova Scotiaβs budget tabled on Monday includes a $500 fee for ele...
A clear sign of the policy direction of the NS conservative gov. Disincentivize sustainable economic and environmental measures, while promoting resource based industries through deregulation. This is not the way to build a better future. Ultimately, all Nova Scotians will pay a heavier price.

Provincial budget fallout begins... The Province is walking away from funding for the student transit pass program. This is creating a $1.2 million dollar hole in HRM's budget and means the program where students get transit passes may not continue

Cutting funding for the Halifax student bus pass program is a stupid decision. Tim Houston looks at cuts through the lens of a man worth 8 million dollars. If he lived in HRM instead of on Sobey Island, he could afford bus passes for his kids. But heβs totally blind to the families who canβt.

Austin got some clarity that this cuts funding for non-profits to build affordable housing, and mentions all the people that came to speak up for the arts. He asks for another friendly amendment to remove the non-profit grants.

Doug Ford accuses Ontario OSAP grant recipients of wanting a freebie. I'm curious to know if Doug Ford paid for the tuition of all of his daughters, or if he made them take out loans which at the time would have been heavily subsidized under the Liberals. #ontario #onpoli #dougford #osap

Screenshot of a news βGround Summaryβ headline reading, βStudents disappointed by Ontarioβs cuts to OSAP grants, tuition freeze lift,β beside a photo of Premier Doug Ford standing in front of a Canadian flag.
Doug Ford cuts OSAP grants, lifts the tuition freeze, and shifts students into debt β then calls it support. For a premier without a post-secondary degree, heβs oddly confident gutting universities. Hard not to think he prefers cheap labour to educated voters.

Woman found dead in tent at Halifax homeless encampment | CBC News
Halifax police are investigating after a woman was found dead in a tent on Barrington Street.
www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
How many more must die before Andy Fillmore and Tim Houston actually do their fucking jobs and start taking care of those in need instead of finding ways to ensure they die. This should never happen while these cunts fill their pockets and find ways to kill the homeless.
