While this move will surely bring a lot of new, stressful things, we’re also so ready for this next step and welcome the great opportunities it’ll bring. ❤️

My wife and I are both very excited about this journey for our family. God/the Universe has worked in mysterious ways, and many things have been falling very nicely into place for our move to Claremore, OK.

Would love it if you could share the flyer for my project exploring disability and masculinity. It’s on my feed.

Would love to be added to this. I’m an indigenous scholar and study indigenous issues related to racial/ethnic identities

How nice it must be to think academics are only interested in pushing left wing activism for the sake of “indoctrination.” As an Indigenous and disabled person, I study what I study so that me and folks like me survive and have a voice in a society that would rather see us silent or not exist.

Can I be added? I’m trained as a sociologist, but I’m very interdisciplinary in my work. I use Foucauldian concepts to explore power, knowledge construction, identity, and deviance among disabled people, Indigenous groups, and other marginalized peoples

Since I am still on a 2+ year waiting list to see a doctor for it, does anyone have recommendations for accounts to follow about #hypermobilitydisorder?

My name is Kyle Callen, and I am a disabled sociologist. My research seeks to know more about men with disabilities, impairments, and/or chronic illnesses and their understandings of and experiences with masculinity throughout their lives. I invite anyone with a disability, impairment, or chronic illness who identifies as male to participate in an interview with me (either in person, via Zoom, or by phone). You will be asked to talk about the relationships between disability, impairment, chronic illness, and masculinity across different stages of your life. Privacy and anonymity will be ensured through the use of pseudonyms. You can stop the interview, refuse to answer any questions you aren’t comfortable answering, and ask to be removed from the study at any time. Interviews will be audio recorded, transcribed for analyses, and will last anywhere from an hour to 90 minutes. If you're interested in participating, my email is Kyle.L.Callen-1@ou.edu. I look forward to hearing from you!

The following is a recruitment letter for an IRB approved research project I'm doing on disabilities and masculinity, along with an alt-text summary. Please share with anyone you know who might be interested in participating.

Disabled people have been right about almost everything that’s happened over the last five years.

People don’t listen to us because they don’t think of us as real people. We’re invisible (at best) and completely disposable (at worse).

We are the canaries - and we are trying to warn you. Listen.

PSA for newbies:

Please include ALT text on your images.

This is an inclusive space for blind and visually impaired people.

Don't arrive late to the party and ignore a bunch of people.

Also, please share this skeet, rather than liking it, to ensure the message gets delivered.

Thanks!

The head of Oklahoma's public schools seems to be testing the waters for a broad-scale attack on the separation of church and state. He's requiring students to watch him pray for our next president, in violation of Department of Education rules. 1/

A few years ago, while teaching at a small country school, I was listening to a podcast during my plan and came across this motto. It knocked me off my feet. I was teaching students who didn’t believe that college was a path. “Don’t take choices away from future you.”

We can’t afford to be pessimists, at least not for too long, because we have a long fight ahead of us.

Folks, we can grieve, we can be tired, we can be lost, but we CAN’T stop fighting for the survival of those most marginalized in our society (women, those in the LGBTQ+ communities, people of color, immigrants, those in poverty, disabled people, and those who exist at the intersections).

I know many of us, including myself, are shocked, saddened, angered, and worried about the direction of our country. But, James Baldwin’s wisdom is something I’ve come to cling to when I feel like nothing I do matters.

Also: for the love of God, can Netflix get their shit together before live streaming a major sporting event again? It’s lame watching a buffering screen through half of the event lol

Well….

Like most heavyweight fights, Paul/Tyson was an overhyped snooze fest. Best fight of the night hands down was Barrios/Ramos, who both fought with a lot of heart and respect for the craft. Also thought Taylor/Serrano was a good fight though many found the decision controversial.

I study Indigeniety and its connections to differences between power and privilege between Native American tribes. Excited to find this group!
