Like i get it. He got sick and was forced to close his failing business and stop bus driving because of his dementia diagnosis. He has nothing to live for except dealing with the fact he is going to lose himself in the coming years. But it's coming so quickly and he is just wasting away on purpose.

Dad has gone to hospital again. He can't even stand up today. Can't walk. He's dead weight. Some strength in his arms at least. He's just given up on living and it's just fucking insane that he has let himself get to this stage by actively deciding not to move from his chair for the last few months.
