actually i say “save the world” and thats what xin believed at the time but it feels bad knowing that the whole situation was constructed by LB just so she could test ways to kill demons in her quest to beat swain like.. xin dying as only a small piece of LB’s 4d chess is very ://

said it already but i guess riot wanted to Kill A Dude and decided xin fans could take that fall since theres not many of us. their new approach to a year long storytelling with stakes and concluson needs more work before its good and it feels bad xin was used as a guinea pig for its first iteration

i think riot’s new approach to year-long storytelling with stakes and visible conclusions still has some kinks that need to be worked out on the writing room and it just sucks that xin and his fans were the guinea pigs for its first run. its a cool concept i was looking foward to but didnt work imo

idk if im making any sense and maybe my feelings will change but atm i think riot has done one of my favourite characters dirty. im seeing sentiment of “who cares if hes dead” because hes not popular so i guess riot just wanted to kill a guy and decided xin fans could take that fall. feels bad :/

imo riot gestured at a character arc without actually having one? all the pieces where there but none of them connected so we ended uo with a guy who had a backstory, a plot, and no connection between the two. nothing about his character informed the plot other than “hes heroic”

the fact said conflict was only implied and never explored was part of a larger problem riot has with storytelling at the time, where plots never resolved and were permanently on hold. on one hand im happy riot has changed their approach and actually told a story with a start and finish but man :/

instead its a thing that kinda exists but is largely unrelated to his sacrifice-myself-to-save-the-world plot and might as well have not been there. i mourned the loss of Aftermath because that story firmly established his relationship to the j’s and implied a cool future conflict between him and j4

it feels wrong that xin didnt spare a single thought to j4/j3 before deciding to kill himself for the plot.. his entire relationship to the j’s was instead only a thing we can kinda glean from throwaway lines and from his trial. we never got to see him interact with them in the new post-arcane canon

The Warning comic lightly touched on his feelings towards his past and the people he left behind + his feelings towards j3 and j4 but it didnt properly conclude those threads imo. i thought roit would obviously have concluded that in this cinematic but no they just killed him lmao

the start of season 2 with the wyldblooms seemed like it was going to be a personal arc about a expatriate returning home to find they dont fit in their native land anymore. but that theme ended up being a minor thing. once the plot started moving they completely dropped it

i dont think this was a satisfying arc, it felt like he was at the right place when shit went down and was heroic enough to save the world, but any other heroic champion could have taken his place. sacrificing himself there didnt feel like something only xin could do. he just heppend to be there
