Screen cap from Watch Duty app covering eastern end of Santa Monica Mountains showing evacuation zones around perimeter of Palisades Fire. Orange MODIS spots show yesterday evening fire activity; red much broader area expands to east, north, and west from that, encroaching on built areas.
Looks like Palisades fire expanded a lot overnight, all in wildland on mostly Valley-facing side of the mountains. Blurry spots in below image are heat detections from MODIS instrument in space. Burning through all that fuel before the winds pick up again is prolly better than the alternative.

The CDC's wastewater program has detected H5 bird flu in wastewater samples from Iowa and Illinois, despite no known active cases of bird flu in dairy cattle or humans in these areas.
