The Prosecution of Pregnant Women Is Amping Up Across the Country
Legislation prioritizing fetus’s rights over women’s rights is on the rise, threatening more people with jail over miscarriages and stillbirths.
This week on Amicus: Pregnancy criminalization is sharply on the rise in the wake of Roe’s demise. I spoke with a lawyer on the frontlines of the battle against prosecutors—in red and blue states—charging women for their pregnancy outcomes. slate.com/podcasts/ami...

Four Things States Can Do To Further Protect Health Care Privacy | Health Affairs Forefront
As experts in health, law, and privacy, we wrote this essay to draw attention to prescription drug monitoring programs and their potential for harm.
Our latest on ways that states can provide better heath data sanctuaries to at-risk populations (spoiler alert: stop sharing data with health care criminalization states & stop collecting sensitive healthcare info). Thanks to my co-authors @lizchiarello.bsky.social & Wendy Bach

I'm so sorry. I lost my Cora late last year, and it's so hard. I hope that soon the memories of her sweetness will bring comfort and joy instead of heartache. Until then, I am sending wishes for comfort and peace.

Map on the left is of Krasner's 2025 win, from the Philly inquiring. Map on the right is of Krasner's 2021 win, from my own work.
Basically the exact same outcome. Which means, as in 2021, Krasner won the area's that surely had the most (tho far less than in 2021!) violence.

1. A must-read thread. I'll highlight three more problems with this opinion, which is the only case to prevent people from using a class action to challenge US government renditions to El Salvador. I often write about complex litigation, with a focus on class actions involving government bodies.

The Trump Administration’s War on Children
The administration is quietly putting America’s children at risk by cutting funds and manpower for investigating child abuse, enforcing child support payments, providing child care and much more.
Trump has indefinitely withdrawn federal funding for:
• Investigating child sexual abuse and internet crimes against kids;
• Responding to reports of missing children;
• Preventing youth violence

Starved in Jail
Why are incarcerated people dying from lack of food or water, even as private companies are paid millions for their care?
Sarah Stillman investigates a widespread crisis of deaths by starvation in America’s county jails. Most of the victims she identified had been arrested in the midst of a mental-health crisis, often on petty charges tied to their psychiatric distress.

A quote from Sarah Stillman that reads, “What I found . . . is hard to describe as anything other than a pattern of widespread torture of people with mental-health issues in county jails.”
In a new report, Sarah Stillman investigates deaths related to starvation, dehydration, and neglect in county jails across the U.S.—a crisis that at times has been covered up by private health companies and government officials.

Liberals hold Wisconsin Supreme Court after campaign shaped heavily by Musk
The Wisconsin Supreme Court, on which liberals hold a 4-3 majority, could determine the future of abortion in the state.
The result of Tuesday’s election is a major victory for Democrats and a rebuke of billionaire Elon Musk, a key ally of President Donald Trump who poured millions into the state supporting conservative candidate Brad Schimel.

I think jury composition is a common one. When I was a law student, Bryan Stevenson regularly made us correct courts' math (in class) on the underrepresentation of groups in jury venires because they were often so bad.
